Croatia: Istrian Wine Route
Istria (Istra in Croatia) has traded hands a great many times over the centuries, but thankfully all of the governing bodies had one thing that they liked a great deal: wine. The predominant types are Terran (also called Refošk) and Malvazija. While both of these varietals are commonly grown in neighboring Slovenia and Italy, the Istrian winemakers have a fresh take on them that warrants a look. Toss in the fact that Istrian cuisine (with its massive use of truffles) is an excellent match for the wines, you'll find yourself in culinary bliss meandering from one winery to the next. Just be a bit careful on how much your driver drinks as the current Croatian alcohol limits for driving are 0.00%!
