Kogl - Ranina - 2008

Ranina is one of the most delicate wines of Kogl. Also known as ‘Bouvier’ the variety is planted across Central Europe. A wild crossing of a Pinot variety the other parent grape is unknown. It was discovered in 1900 by Clotar Bouvier, not far from Kogl. This makes it indigenous. Early ripening and low yielding it is commonly used to make sweet wines. Winemaker Franci Cvetko fancies it dry and his rendition supports this. Grapes were hand harvested from the small patch planted to Pannonian sand and clay, and then vinified on site. Fermentation with selected yeast was conducted after a cold soak on the skins.

Pale in the glass and gently effervescent with expressive aromas of white fleshed fruit, spring flowers and a sweet mineral note of celery. Exuberant juicy and not too acidic it would contrast spicy food as pleasantly as it would complement fresh water fish with minced herbs.
