(The description below is from the 2008 vintage which we are sold out of. We have currently the 2010 vintage in stock.)
The ridiculously mineral rich 2008 Hoher Rain comes from the organic single vineyard it is named for. The flavors of slate and clay are balanced by exotic, spicy, ripe fruit. Geyerhof often pushes the boundaries of what Gruner can be, but this is absolutely text book, without failing to be text book Geyerhof. Those that lean towards intricacy and acidity should find this one of the stars of 2008. Very high toned, energetic, complex but balanced it will be interesting to see where this wine goes over the next 3-5 years. Instead of taking the asparagus route try it with well spiced braised pork.
Geyerhof has begun bottling their wines under screw cap (excellent choice), but their wines benefit from aeration so open them ahead of time for best results. Also, don’t be afraid to open a bottle and have just a glass the wine will hold in the fridge for up to 3 days. |
