This is one of the finest Zweigelt we have ever encountered. Ironically from a producer in a white wine region most known for their Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. It is juicy and spectacularly fruity, almost but not quite tangy and layered with wild peppery, herbal notes. While much of the joy in the wine comes from the its very primary character it is the polish and finesse that makes it standard setting and a smashing combination with fowl ranging from simple roast chicken to wild duck or mushroom soup. Even though it is a 2007 it is so brilliantly red that even a sommelier would guess it was from 09. |
