Bibich - R6 Riserva - 2009

Alen Bibich has long been one of our favorite producers in Croatia. Located in the Skradin part of Northern Dalmatia his lithe, mineral reds have a freshness uncommon to the reds from the more famous growing areas to the south. The latest arrivals brings a new look to Bibich. For those already in love with past vintages of the ever popular Bibich Riserva it is now called R6. The wine inside has not changed. It is a roughly equal blend of native red varieties Babich, Plavina, and Lasin aged 12 months in new American oak. All are part of the large Zinfandel family of grapes native to the region. Consistently under 13% Alc. the wine is lifted and high toned despite the 12 months in new wood. A gentle nose of cherry kirsch, tobacco, the wines is elegant but also savage, reminiscent of red wines of the Veneto or even old school Chianti. Exceptionally food friendly this will pair with anything from goat cheese to smoked meats.
