This grape variety, which is very popular in the German wine-growing areas of Franconia (Franken) and Rhinehesse (Rheinhessen) produces light, soft wines with more herbal spice than primary fruit aromas. Sylvaner shows dry, slightly earthy fruit, good crisp green apple peel acidity and lightness. It has reticent fruity notes with echoes of pears, sometimes with leathery or nutty spice notes. The wine’s character is subtle and gently earthy, it reflects the subtleties of its terroir.
A racy, youthful wine.
