Our Notes: Only 9 bottles left! The winery is an old family estate. In the vineyard and cellar, organic and natural winemaking methods are used. The wine is fermented in qvevri. Jgia is an extremely rare red grape variety, unusually pale and nuanced for a Kakhetian red.

90 Points Wine & Spirits Magazine: Aleksi Tsikhelishvili has only about 100 vines of jgia on his six-acre estate, some of the last known examples of this rare vine. They are old, and trellised so high, that they look almost like trees. The thin skinned fruit makes much lighter reds than the saperavi that reigns in Kakheti: The lack of color is no reflection of flavor, however. It's exceptionally spicy, a juicy mouthful of flavors that conjure up bushy herbs and forest berries, tree bark and crushed tart cherries. One taster compared Tsikhelishvili's 2016 to †he pale Loire reds made from pineau d'aunis. It's vivid and lively, very easy to drink. It will also be hard to find, since he made only 200 bottles.
