The pride of Bott is the 1.2 ha of Furmint they farm in the 17 ha Csontos vineyard with an additional 2 ha in early cultivation. This special site was among the first protected in the original classification in 1641. It is a steep 35 to 40 degree vineyard, terraced at the top where 100 year old vines still grow. The volcanic rhyolite soils are thinnest here and become heavier down the slope. Lime is also a component and important for plant nutrition. Horses are still used to plow where they can access as they were 200 years ago. Vines range from young vines, 40 year old, 60 year old and a small amount a ripe 80-100 years. After a intermittently wet growing season the area was blessed by an ideal Indian summer and the family (Jozef, Judit and her father) hand harvested ripe Furmint, botrytis free and in excellent condition. At the winery the fruit was pressed in their traditional wooden Hungarian press. Fermentation was completed in 1st and 2nd use 220 liter barrels by native yeast. None of the barrels went through Malolactic fermentation. After 9 months elevage, fining and a gentle filtering 91 cases total were bottled. Full and fiery with complex, effusive aromas of candied ginger, apricot, and white tea. Nervy acidity tempers the full velvety texture and highlights the wines fine minerality.
