Our Notes: The exact blend of Jareninčan varies vintage to vintage but never in style. Each year Silvo Črnko makes special adjustments to produce a harmonic and highly drinkable wine. These humble liter bottles represent half of Črnko’s total production and until the 2009 vintage had only been sold locally in the nearby village of Jarenina from where the wine takes its name. All fruit is estate grown and comes from the family’s 6 hectares of mixed white varietals planted to the regions unique marl soils and sustainably farmed. The Jareninčan is a blend of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. It has only 11% alcohol and is as drinkable as wine comes. While it is perfect for even the most informal occasion with good food and nice glassware it will behave like a wine more than twice its price. Riesling dominates the aromatics offering juicy tangerine and quince notes to the silty minerality that Crnko wines often share. As a beverage it is thirst quenching and light on its feet with invigorating acidity that makes it difficult to set down. During the summers in the village of Jarenina, locals mix it with sparkling water and then proceed to consume it long into the night.

2 Stars New York TimesOily texture with flavors of flowers, herbs and apples.
