Our Notes: Olaszrizling, or what’s also called Graševina in Croatia, Riesling Italico in Italy, Welschriesling in Austria and Laški Rizling in Slovenia, is undeniably unique when planted in Somló. The basalt rich soil, cool continental climate, and István’s desire to pick later in the season results in something thing special. The 2011 is oily, savory, and with a sweetness that’s more herbaceous than fruity. And despite the low alcohol, there is a lot of power and structure in this wine, and the weight lends itself to pairing with squash soups, Dim Sum dumplings, creamy sauces and fatty fish. In nearby Austria this same grape can typically make rich Trockenbeerenauslese, but when fermented to near dryness in Somlò with over a year in barrel, something far more rare results. 664 bottles produced.

90 Points Wine & Spirits Magazine: “A refined welschriesling, this has an oiliness to its texture that keeps the grape's floral notes in check. It feels broad but not plump; luxurious without being overt, the delicacy and savory ginger spice driving it toward Cantonese whole-fried fish.
