Our Notes: Ivana and Ivo Carić cultivate the land on the island of Hvar much the same way it has been done for millenia. They grow many different crops besides grapes, to preserve the island’s polyculture.

Bogdanjuša means “a godsend” (Bogom dana), and is traditionally used during church holidays and festivities. Bright, and slightly briny, this is a crisp white that will make any day festive. Try it with baked fish, heavy with fresh herbs and lemon.

The name, Plovac Ploški, derives from the name of the grape variety, Plavac (Mali), and the word Plaže (the vineyard area), so what it really means is “Plavac from Plaže. Plavac Mali from Hvar takes on a distinct umami character with notes of dried herbs. Pair with braised beef or cuttlefish ink risotto like the locals do.
