Our Notes: Only 2 bottles left! Although closely related to the Slovenian variety Refošk, significant clonal and morphological variations exist between them. Most notably is Teran’s ability to easily accumulate an average 16% of sugar and over 10g/L of total acids. Long prized for its medicinal properties, especially in the treatment of anemia, modern research has shown Istrian Teran to be a rich source of both iron and various antioxidants beneficial to our cardiovascular systems. Given its inky and seemingly syrupy texture in the glass, its weight is counter intuitively light. Along with its aforementioned mineral (lead pencil/iron) backbone, there is a distinct cranberry like tartness, herbaceousness, and pomegranate flavor. Traditionally paired with local pršut (prosciutto), it’s also an ideal compliment with hearty stews, blood sausages and rare beef.
