Our Notes: Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s most widely planted variety and planted to numerous regions. In each, it produces a wine unique to those conditions. The nutritious soils and sunny summer in Vienna result in gentler fruitier versions tuned for consumption. Peter Bernreiter ferments his wine with wild yeast, which adds dimension to the wine’s naturally joyous character. Nicely textured with aromas of citrus and stone fruit, the wine is extremely food-friendly. In addition to local pairings like Kümmelbraten (caraway pork bellyroast), Faschierte Laibchen (fried minced meat patties), Fleischknödel (meat dumplings)and the classic Wiener Schnitzel, Southeastern Asian flavors and spicy comfort foods pair beautifully as well.
