Our Notes: Sold out! Geyerhof used to bottle this great liter of Portugieser and Zweigelt. When we heard the old vine Portugieser were grafted over to Grüner we were devastated, until Ilse’s son Josef introduced us to Familie Maier Zweigelt. This punchy light native ferment red from Geyerhof’s certified organic vineyards was reared in a single giant beautiful old acacia barrel with out sulfur until just before the bottling of the wine. Delicate cherry flavors intermingle with an engaging piney, Christmas spice perfume. Taught with minerality and a Gamay-like body but with the richness you’d expect from the nutrient rich sandy loam soils. Perfect with a slight chill and a proper Goulash. Since Riesling and Grüner are the approved DAC grapes, Zweigelt is technically a Landwein making it an incedible value for the quality.
