Our Notes: 2011 was an extremely dry and hot summer and autumn. The tannins matured very slowly due to the lack of water. Usually the grapes are harvested very early to avoid massive wines, but in 2011 it was necessary to wait much longer for the tannins to ripen. Therefore the wines of 2011 are slightly higher in alcohol, and needed a bit more time to become balanced and enjoyable with food. Despite it’s density and power, the Spitzerberg exhibits floral aromas and is marked by very refreshing acidity. A wine that certainly will have a long life.

93 Points The Wine Advocate: “From a very dry and warm year, the 2011 Spitzerberg delivers cassis, pomegranate, vanilla, blackberry confiture, blood and meat aromas on the noses; these aromas are mingled with flora, some flinty and spicy flavors. Very well concentrated, super fresh and pure on the palate, silky textured yet firmly structured palate, this full-bodied and perfectly ripe wine will benefit from another few years in the bottle; then, it will gain more finesse and transparency and will surpass the 2012 in terms of ageability.” drink: 2019-2028
