Our Notes: The 2012 vintage was characterized by a very hot summer, but the vines were provided with adequate moisture and thus the grapes could continue ripening until the beginning of October. In October, the very cold nights had already begun, so the grapes faced great temperature swings on a daily basis, and could hang on the vines for a long time without becoming overripe. This is recognizable in the wonderfully dense but very lively fruit-forward character of the vintage: aromas of dark berries, a refreshing structure of acidity, with very fine and elegant tannins.

91 Points The Wine Advocate: “Fermented with 30% whole bunches, Muhr/Niepoort's 2012 Spitzerberg is pure and intense, ripe and skinny, as well as fresh and floral on the inviting nose. Full-bodied, very elegant and juicy, this is a well concentrated, smooth yet pleasantly fresh and well structured Blaufränkisch but it does not have the tension, freshness and aging potential of the 2011 or 2013.” drink: 2017-2022
