Muhr-van der Niepoort Prellenkirchen 2014

Muhr-van der Niepoort, Carnuntum (Austria)
White (11.8%) , Organic
Grüner Veltliner, Riesling
Sorry, sold out
Our Notes: Prellenkirchen is part of the Carnuntum winemaking region known for its warm Pannonian climate and stony chalk and loess soils. The wine is a blend of Grüner Veltliner, complemented with 10% Riesling that offers additional freshness and lively aromas. The grapes are crushed by foot with their stems and pressed after two days of maceration. Then, the must is fermented and matured in used French oak. This is a distinctive wine, aromatic and mineral, with an elegant acidity.

92 Points Wine & Spirits Magazine for the 2013: “Prellenkirchen is at the far eastern side of Austria, where the granite-and-limestone hills excel at reds made from blaufränkisch and zweigelt. Dorli Muhr and her business partner, Portuguese vintner Dick Niepoort, are now proving that it can also produce compelling grüner veltliner. They pull this from 25-to-30-year-old vines and ferment it with ambient yeasts in an old vat Muhr caged from Schloss Gobelsburg. The wine feels full and fine at once, the silky texture holding bright, crisp flavors of green plum and herbs, with an earthy note that brings to mind matcha. It lasts, too, the acidity-possibly aided by 10 percent riesling-keeping the palate refreshed.”
