The people. Bock Cellar is a family-owned winery located in Villány, Hungary’s most southern wine region. The family's ancestors settled in Hungary from Germany in the 18th century. The family has been involved in viticulture and wine-making in the Villány wine region since 1850. Nowadays, the family also owns Bock Hotel Ermitage in Villány.
In the vineyard. The winery farms 70 hectares of estate land and another 70 hectares of integrated land in the best locations of the Villány wine region (Kopár-dűlő, Jammertál, Fekete-hegy, Ördögárok), where for the most part red grape types are grown. It produces fresh and aromatic wines from Cserszegi Fűszeres, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon Blanc, Hárslevelű, full-bodied white wines from Olaszrizling, Rajnai Rizling, Chardonnay, Rosé and Reds from Portugieser (today called PortaGéza), Kékfrankos, Kadarka, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
In the cellar. The cellar is a modern two-story structure which operates as a processing plant, warehouse and cellar all in one. There is also a beautiful circular cellar called the Bock Chapel that can host concerts and wedding ceremonies. An old cellar called the Jammertal Cellar has been in the family since 1850.
