Country Location: Montenegro
In 1963, grape growers in the areas of Podgorica, Montenegro joined together to form a co-op called “13.July”. This venture later transformed into a modern company “13 July – Plantations” or Plantaže around 1970. The acreage of vineyards was vastly increased during this time to support large scale production. The winery is the top producer of Montenegrin wine, exporting to 35 countries. Plantaže produces a wide array of wines from various grapes, the favorite being the indigenous red Vranac. Vranac is believed to also be related to the Crljenak Kaštelanski family from Croatia, with which is does share many commonalities. The winery also makes fine, entry level examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
